Question
I have researched turtles for over 3 years before finally getting my 2 turtles a 2 Red Ear Sliders. I have all the right setups.
2 100 gallon tanks
2 Rena Filstar XP4's
Above Tank Basking Area's
All the right foods
No small rocks only smooth large rocks
etc.
Water temp is 76F
Basking area temp is 93F
Reptisun 5.0 UVB

I have had my turtles for a little over a month. They were cleared as healthy by the vet and have shed once in my care. But neither ever bask like EVER.

I have had a small camera set up out of sight to see if I was just imagining it but no they do not ever bask. The areas are very easy for them access and the right temps. But neither of them ever bask. I am afraid it will hinder their D3 absorption since they are never under the light.

They are no longer shy and eat from my hand and swim to the front of the tank when I come in the room.

Any idea's?

Answer
they will bask if they feel they need to. there is nothing worng with taking them outdoors and let them run around with you watching of course and allow them to gte the uvb that way too.
they may not find the basking areat o their liking they may feel the lights are to close.
how far abbove the water are the lights>
is the basking area that they lay on too hot? maybe that the area is hot to the shell as well.

as long as you have the uvb light over the water and it is 10 inches to them then even if they stay in the water that is fine. they are still getting the rays they need.
