Musk Turtle Gaping

Question
I have 2 razorback musk turtles and one of them is constantly sitting out of water on the rock. Occasionally I see him sitting there with his mouth wide open. Then when I come close to look, he closes his mouth and stares at me like 'what do you want?' He is very active and swims normally and eats well. I just want to make sure there isnt something wrong with him. He seems completely fine other than that.

Ashley,   I am so sorry it took so long to get to you. If you hear no wheezing or whistling...your probably fine. Because these guys are cold blooded they have to regulate their temperature. Sometimes like birds,even dogs they et that extra heat out that way. An animal eating is usually a healthy animal. Also I want you to not get bitten and see if you can get a small flash light and take a look in there make sure he is nice and pink you see no signs of rotting or decay. Other than that winter is coming so you could move his dock down abit but , I would make no new changes. If anything changes get rt back to me ......Good Luck, Tina
