Question
i just bought a female sugar glider. me and my mum are playing with it a lot , but it seems to be bitting me and not my mum.but after i feed it ,it still bites. whats wrong? is it me?

Answer
To answer your question, it would be best to have more information as in how old is the glider, how long have you had her, how long do you spend with her vs. how long your mom spends with her, etc.  But I will offer some general information I hope will help.

Sugar gliders usually bite out or fear or to protect their young.

If she bites you and not your mom, it might be due to scent or that she just doesn't know you as well.  Sugar gliders are very sensitive to scents.  We find that some sugar gliders will react differently people who wear certain scents like colognes, soaps or shampoos or lotions.  It can also be as simple as the scent of other animals in the home.

To be sure, shower with unscented soaps and shampoos, use no lotions and wash your hands prior to handling the glider.

Other ways to bond are to use licky treats on your fingers, such as applesauce or flavored yogurt.  Every time you approach the sugar glider, offer a treat.

Spend as much time as possible with her, including carrying in a bonding pouch and as much play time at night as possible.

The bottom line in taming a biting glider is that it takes time, patience, love, more time, more patience and lots of unconditional love.  It will happen, but please don't give up.

I hope this helps.  I can try to offer more suggestions if you provide a little bit more information.

I would also suggest you do some further research on bonding at http://worldwidesugarglidernetwork.com/board/index.php

Best of luck with her.
