Question
I have a red tail boa and he is about 8 years old and he is 5 feet long, i have had him for about 1 and 1/2 years. everything was going welll he was eating well and he had no problems. I fed him about 3-4 weeks ago and he usually deficates 2 weeks after eating but he hasn't gone yet, i took x-rays of him and he has no blockages, he seems hungry but i didnt want to make anything worse until i knew exactly what is going on with him. I was wondering of you could shed some light on this problem for me. Thanks alyssa

Answer
Do you not think it was a bit extreme to take x-rays because he had not went to the toilet in a few weeks? X-rays are radiation and it does have side effects, where did you get these done? It's against health and safety policies to take x-rays when there is no good reason to. How many were taken? I don't think any good vet would suggest x-rays because a snake is a bit late going to the toilet, they would look at other causes first. Have you tried soaking him in warm water? Did the vet test him or parasites? Maybe he is just dehydrated? Anyway he should probably go in his own time, snakes don't always act like clock work and sometimes there isn't really a reason for this. Maybe he has went somewhere but you can't see it? If this is the first time its happened I wouldnt worry too much. Just try the water and he may go then and make sure he gets out for some exercise, that can stimulate them to go. Good luck
