red nose

my California king snake has a very red nose. i think he might be sick. i used to have black sand from pjs pet center in the tank but i removed it once his nose became red. it was new to his environment. i was wondering if it could cause respiratory problems or irritation of the nose? other wise you know what it might be?

Do you normally use sand with your cal king? I know I use it with desert kingsnakes but with other types I use aspen, forest bedding, or bark depending on what type. If he was burrowing around in it, then he might have irritated it. Keep an eye on it and change the bedding. It should heal up pretty easily and next shed should be all better.
