Milksnake Shed

Question
I have a young 6 month old female milksnake who is very nippy but she has a solid piece of shed covering about the last third of her body and every time I reach into her tank she bites me and then buries herself in the substrate which makes it very hard to handle her. So i was wondering if you had any suggestions to get the shed off cause it has been stuck on her for about a week

Answer
First, raise her overall humidity into the normal range for her subspecies--stuck sheds are caused by low-level dehydration, which can be a chronic condition when cage humidity is too low.

Second--if you can't bring yourself to just go in and get her and ignore the biting, then get a pair of gloves, and then go in and get her.  Put her in a tupperware tub with enough warm water to come halfway up her body, for about a half hour.  The stuck shed should then peel off easily.  (Don't force it, if  it sticks--soak her longer, making sure the stuck areas are wetted down completely, until it comes off  easily).
