Does my royal python have worms?

Question
hello,
As my boyfriend was putting our 2yr old royal python back in his viv he started to defecate and as he did he said he noticed a white thing poking out that was maybe 1" long and had a little fat bit on the end and that it seemed to wriggle a bit then go back in, will this have been a worm or part of his hemipenes? his feces looked normal, but he has refused his last 2 meals, i know royal pythons are renowned for being a bit fussy sometimes but now I'm worried he may have worms?? Thank you in advance, Cat

Answer
Hello Cat,
Can you get a fecal done on him?  It sounds like a possibility of worms.  The hemipenes should be pink, not white, as far as I know.  I suppose the color can vary from snake to snake.
What type of feeder are you using, is it frozen/thawed, or live?
Yes, pythons can get fussy, but if he is refusing food & has been now for the last couple of meals, I would try to get a fecal taken on him.  If he does have worms, it is a relatively easy deworming process.
Have you ever seen that before?   Do you have a vet where you could take in a fecal?  I think that would be best, just to make sure what that could have been.  The description sounds like a worm.  They normally don't evert the hemipenes during defication unless he was having some trouble & pushed too hard.
It is also possible it just could have been some extra urate or fluid that was stringy or something.
