Question
Hello i have a qeustion more or less an emergency. Well heres the rundown. I adopted a leopard gecko from a family member a few weeks back becuase she said she couldnt take care of it anymore. The signs thst i know is that it shows extreme malnnuritment, extreme inactivity (almost as if its dead) i even give it a light, soft, touch to make shure its alive its so severe, and refuses to make any effort to eat at all. no matter how much effort i put into nursing it(with what knowledge i have is little) its condition seems to stay the same. it also has a problem with its legs i dont know if their weak from not eating or what but this is bad. I cant see an animal suffer like this especially one so small i need to know what i do?!!!!!

Answer
Cory-I am so very sorry to read about your Leo

If the tail is very thin and it has no substantial body weight to it then the chances are that it already has organ damage and will soon pass away

If you want to try and continue to syringe feed it-get some Flukers Rept-A-Aid and mix the powder according to directions and feed very small amounts at a time

To feed -place a drop right above the nostrils and it should have an automatic reaction to lick it off

Trying to force open the jaws of a very ill malnourished animal can easily break them as they are probably very soft and he may have metabolic bone disease from lack of proper calcium absorption

This may also be the problem with it's legs as severe MBD affects the legs and the spine and the jaw

Also-with opening the jaws-the formula may go into the lungs instead of into the stomach -if there is little or no feeding/swallowing response to the liquid being placed in it's mouth

Taking the lizard into a vet would be the most humane and painless method of euthanasia should you decide that it is time to put it out of it's suffering

I am so very sorry to read of your geckos problems and I hope that syringe feeding the Flukers formula will help
