Question

dragon
hi there i have got 2 beardies that are 10weeks old, both doing well but i have noticed today that my red one looks like it has had its tail bitten on the tip by my other beardie, i just wondered if the bit that looks dead will fall off?, its only about 5-10mm on the very tip of her tail, is it possible to cut the dead bit off or would a vet need to do this? any help would be much appreciated. i have sent a picture of tail aswell.

Answer
Hello Keith,

Well, you need to most likely separate them soon before more nips occur.  At that age, they are very hungry & can become aggressive towards each other.  You may have 2 males, as well which it is impossible to house them together.
At the moment, just treat the injury as it still looks like there is feeling at the end, though, soon, it will shrivel up & die then fall off.  At that time, you can either take him to the vet, or if you have the proper area that is clean & sterile, you could technically clip it off properly as long as the tissue is dead & you don't get viable tissue.
Go ahead & get some betadine to clean the area, & then use antibiotic ointment to put on that area to help keep it from getting infected.  If it is from a bite, there is a strong possibility that it will end up getting infected because that is just how it goes with bites.
That is why I encourage you to separate them soon, before more accidents start to happen.
