Question
Hello,
I have three baby rabbits that I have found homes for. Can you tell me a good time to take them away from the mother? They are three weeks old now, still feeding from the mother every day although they did nibble a little straw now and again :)
On another note, do you have any tips on allowing the adults a little freedom from the cage?
They are about six months old and almost letter trained, should I allow them the use of a smaller room first? With a litter tray in the room?
And lastly! Can you advise me on the choosing of toys? The ones i've tried already have either been eaten or ignored!
~Many many thanks,
Mark

Answer
Hello Mark

The kits are normaly weaned at 6/8 weeks it depends on what breed of rabbit it is large breed rabbit are weaned at 8 weeks and small/meduim litters are weaned at 6/7 weeks. For toys you can give them; cardboard boxes with large holes cut in them, tolite paper tubes, cat jingle balls, and of coarse all rabbit toys from the pet stores. Each rabbit should be let out of there cage for at least a half an hour daily, if the weather is nice where you are I advise you get a rabbit harness and a light weight leash, most rabbits love the outdoors and this way they can explore the outdoors without getting lost.
