How to catch him?

Question
His name is Duke and he is a holland lop mix.  He is only 2.5 months old and we have had him only two days.  He scratched the heck out of me when I tried to pick him up to put him back in his cage.  Plus I had to chase him around for about twenty minutes just to catch him.  What is the best way to pick him up?  What is the best way to assure him he is safe and to not be so scared of us?
Thanks for you input!

Answer
It is best to leave him in his cage until he gets used to you.  That will only take a short time if you handle him on a regular basis (daily).  The best way to hold a bunny is like a football player holds a football with his head in the crook of your elbow.  They are afraid of heights and will feel safer if you hold them this way.  To pick him up you want to support his hind legs, these are the ones that do all the scratching.  Never pick up a bunny by his/her ears and it isn't a good idea to grab the nap of their neck without support the bulk of their weight with the other hand.

Hope this helps.
