Question
What is the lifespan of this rabbit? A friend got one for Easter but now don't want it and gave it to me.  I have a dwarf rabbit already that lives inside but this one cannot.  He is too big.  We care for him and love him everyday.
Thanks
Ellen

Answer
Dear Ellen,

A well cared for house rabbit, spayed or neutered, can live 10 years or more.  A purebred might have a greater likelihood of having genetically inborn health problems, so I might expect a New Zealand White might not have as long a natural lifespan as a hybrid.  But some NZW's will fool you and live a long, healthy life!  :)

A bunny inside doesn't need all that much room, and I would suggest that you have both bunnies spayed/neutered and then see if they can bond together.  There's nothing as adorable as a pair of cuddling bunnies, especially when one is huge and the other is wee.  :)  We have several couples like that, and it's just heartwarming.

Our bunnies all run free and are trained to the litterbox. There's probably no reason your new bunny can't learn to do the same and be just as wonderful an indoor companion as your dwarf bunny.  But be very, very careful when introducing them, as rabbits are extremely territorial and may fight ferociously.  Introductions must be made slowly, carefully and on neutral ground until the rabbits are friends.

You can read more about bonding rabbits at:

Just go to the bottom of the page and input "bonding" in the search engine.  You'll get a whole list of helpful articles.

Hope that helps!  Please write back if you have any other questions.
