QuestionI live in the country with many wild rabbits as my outdoor 'pets'. One of the 'youngsters' came up to the house this morning, an apparent victim of a predator. His leg is severly injured, maybe even almost detached. I was able to feed it carrots and it took them. Is there ANYTHING I can do for this poor little guy?
AnswerDear Paula,
If his leg is not salvageable, then it might be necessary for it to be amputated. I have lived with a "tripod" cottontail, and they do amazingly well, able to run like the wind and foraging just fine. They are, of course, more vulnerable to predators, but if you can provide him with a sheltered place to live, he should do fine.
If you feel this is a bit out of your league, then the best thing to do would be to get him to a wildlife rehabilitator, which you can locate with the following directory:

I hope this helps. Please write back if you have more questions.
