Question
Hi Steve, was just looking for updates on color genetics during lunch and happened upon your site.
Did you get your new barn up?  How are the lynx doing?

Answer
Cheryl.Nice to hear from you...Barn's are all built ...(I have a BIG one planned for 2 years out), and Lynx are finished, as far as I am involved. I have some good ones...but judges still want to DQ many due to the grey UC on belly. New Lynx MR std will help I hope. I have developed some nice Silver Marten MR, (easy as they are only a chin tan pattern)and and am trying to make a Tan MR..very difficult as I have to work with Wide band genes, rufus factors, tan pattern, and keep the type... When I get them, they'll be super. How have you been? I will be shearing a nice group of llamas in April...Do you want me to send you some wool to try? (Free, of course!) I've got a large red male, two adult multicolored females, a 1 1/2 year old brown female, and three young appaloosa females that were born at our place late this last year, so there should be an interesting mix of wool to try to spin. I recall that you had an interest when you were in NW GA a couple years ago.
Let me know...  What genetics were you interested in?  There are some great sites out there now, it seems...But none of the 'experts' is getting away from the mainstream rabbit color genes...Very little is being written on real rufus factor, wide band, and silver (Si) genes (I am wondering how complex it would be to make a Champagne D'Argente Minirex..Born black but changing to grey within 4 months? that is the Si gene factor + who knows what else?) Once I perfect the Tans (about 3-4 years, I'm thinking) that is next on my agenda...Say...are you on the ARBA Stds. Committee still? (Bobbie S. quit, I understand.) Do you know if anyone has a Cert. of Dev. on Minirex Silver Martens yet? I'm confident no one has one on Tan MRex..  (My actual email is steve.roush@ge.com) Thanks, Steve
