QuestionMy 4 month old female bunny is having abnormal stools. Up until now they have been small, dry brown pellets, but recently, she has produced a stool the approximate size and width of about a half a hot dog. It looked moist as well.
Should I be concerned?
AnswerDear Adena,
That's rather large, even for a cecotrope. Rabbits produce two types of droppings, the normal "cocoa puff" pellets you see, and the cecotropes that they immediately ingest as they come out warm from the chute. What you saw was probably a very large, misshapen cecotrope, and that might mean that your bunny is suffering from a mild bout of cecal dysbiosis.
