pet rabbit sudden death

Question
My 12 month old rabbit died this morning and I don't know why.  She was perfectly fine last night and yet I found her dead.  She is kept with other rabbits but with a wire partition seperating them as she didn't get on with them.  I look after all my animals and I don't know what could have gone wrong.  She just looked as though she'd just gone to sleep.  What could have caused her sudden death?  I hadn't changed her diet or anything else.

Answer
Dear Jane,

Without more information about symptoms preceding her death, it is impossible for me to guess what might have happened.  If she was kept with many other rabbits, it was probably hard for you to determine whether she was eating normally, or producing fecal pellets.  If she was not, then she had a serious health problem that needed to be treated by a good rabbit vet.

Only a necropsy might help determine her cause of death.  I am sorry this comes too late, but this could help if you ever have cause to think your bunny is sick:

I hope this helps. Please write back if you have any other questions.
