revolution & bot flies

Question
I have been keeping my rabbit on revolution since she lives outside. She gets out to exercise everyday, and I keep a fan on her when it's hot. I know about bot flies, but was wondering if revolution would prevent them or at least kill them if she did get one since it takes care of all inds if prasites, and goes into the bloodstream. Just was wondering if you knew about this? Thank You, DOnna

Answer
Dear Donna,

Revolution is safe for rabbits (unlike Frontline, which can be deadly), and is effective against fleas, mites, and several types of roundworms.  It will not *prevent* a botfly from laying its egg on your bunny.  However, I have found that Revolution seems to "slow down" the larva enough so that it can be removed from the cyst without major problems.

I think it's wise to keep her on Revolution during the botfly season, since it will at least *help* if she is infected.  I hope she avoids those nasties, though!

Hope this helps.  Please write back if you have any other questions.
