QuestionKinky is my 2yrs 9 months old girl. She has been adopted when she was 4 months old and returned to me 6 months later when the adopter accidentally dropped her from height and resulted her front legs splayed. Local vet suggested to put her to sleep to save medical cost but I refused. She gone thru several surgeries for the removal of abscess on 4 paws and on long term antibiotic & pen-G. The abscess on paws is a "on and off" issue. We all know that female rabbit will get high chance of reproductive cancers (ovarian, uterine, tc). In this case, should I or should I not spay her?
AnswerDear Jackie,
This is a tough call. Her risk of reproductive cancers is high if she's not spayed, but it's not 100%. You just can't tell the future.
If the vet thinks she is a poor surgical risk due to her ongoing abscesses, then it might be best to not spay her. Without knowing more about her, I can't know for sure, but I'd follow the advice of an experienced rabbit vet:

She's probably too old to be helped by this article, but it might be worth considering, if you do it very gradually:

I hope this helps.
