Bunny puss

Question
I have a bunny, who had an abcess on her cheek. She went on meds and she reacted really really well..infact her abcess is almost gone. Althought, she formed two more bumps that were moveable, on her face. one has not continued to grow, and one did but not too big where it was affecting her. I ve noticed now, that the one bump had scabbed... and now today... i guess pussed because there is this white sack thingy attachted to it. If I had to describe it , i would say that it looked liek toothpaste or white gun. The bump has gone soft and i m going to assume that it burst and its puss. But i dont think this is normal. She has a vets appointment on saturday, but should i rush her to an emerg? Shes fine in every other  way, eating and behaviour and pooping is normal. WHat do u think?

Answer
Dear Manda,

It does sound as if she had two additional abscesses, and that one was close enough to the surface that it burst and drained.  It's not an emergency.  Just keep it clean and dry by swabbing gently with dilute Betadine (povidone iodine) solution (about 1 tablespoon of betadine in 1/4 cup of clean, lukewarm water) to remove and gently express any pus that's coming out.  Don't try to squeeze anything, as this could cause an internal rupture and spread the infection.

The vet will have a look at it on Saturday and tell you if any additional treatment is necessary.

Hope this helps!
