Question
Dear Dana,
I have asked someone about this issue and she did suggested fur being passed out, but when I crushed the poops they didn't have fur in them.. is that normal not to find any passed out furs in the poops? the vet I am seeing is supposed to be familar with rabbits, I hope I have chosen the right vet!

Many thanks,
Lily

Dear Dana,

Another issue... my rabbit had the following feces 2 days after the cherries and cherry stems.. he usually poops about 200 a day.
1 Aug: about 8 long funny guiter body shaped feces in a much yellower colour.
4 Aug: 2-3 long funny guiter body shaped feces, normal colour
5 Aug: 2-3 long funny guiter body shaped feces, normal colour
6 Aug: 6-7 long funny guiter body shaped feces, normal colour

i have examined all the funny shaped feces and they are all the same texture as the normal round ones, just the shape is different, it looks like there are 2 poops combined into one, just like a guiter body shape. Can you please tell me what is causing it? another note is he is taking Sporanox Oral Solution, 0.5ml per day for 21 days already, with another 7 days to go for the scaling of his ears, and also I just applied the last dose of Revolution on 5 Aug for his fur mites. He is eating, drinking and playing well.

Many thanks,
Lily

Dear Lily,

I can't see them to examine them, but I'm betting the "guitar shaped" poops are just full of fur that bun has ingested and is passing now.  Make sure to groom her well so that she ingests as little shed hair as possible, and provide plenty of fresh water, timothy hay, and wet greens to help push things through.

Sporanox?  Does she have a fungal infection?  That does sound like an extremely long time to be on a nasty medication like that.  If this was for a yeast overgrowth, there are much better ways to treat that.  :(  I would be sure the vet you're seeing is experienced with rabbits, and be sure to go to one who is:

Good luck,

Dana

Answer
Dear Lily,

Fur in poop like this is usually pretty felted and difficult to recognize.  Almost like "fuzz."  So don't expect to see long hairs.  It's just high fiber, indigestible.

But if bun is acting fine otherwise, I still would not worry about a few malformed poops.  The should resolve in a short time.
