Question
I've had a few rabbits before and now I just recently got a new dwarf Holland lop and I've noticed some things that I want to ask someone about. My rabbit doesn't seem to just use a corner as a bathroom like the others I've ad. It just uses the bathroom anywhere in it's cage and leaves it a complete mess so I have to clean it everyday rather than once every few days or week. Also, he has little scabs on him under all his fur. They are a little pink and have a little scab covering the skin. I don't know what to think, because it's never happened to me before with a rabbit. I bought some rabbit books on health but none mention scabs or little bites. For now, I'm not sure what they are and hope it's not fleas. I bought some flea treatment but it sounds really dangerous and I think it's hazardous to a little bunny like mine. And, if I do use it, won't it get into the scabs/ into the skin and poison him? Please help!

Answer
Dear Jerica,

You're smart not to use the over-the-counter flea remedy on your bunny.  Many of those are just not safe for rabbits.  The best medication for flea and mite prevention is Revolution (selamectin) from your vet.  You can read more here:

and find a good rabbit vet here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

His litterbox habits will improve once he's neutered:

but here are some tips to help in the meantime:

If he's a very little baby, then he's probably still adjusting to his new surroundings, and will settle to his litterbox in time.

Hope this helps.
