Bald spot under chin

Question
Greetings,
I have a one year old male mini-rex. I have seen him licking the fur on his chin and didn't pay any mind to it, thinking he was just grooming. But there is a bald spot under his chin that had been getting bigger, and I'm wondering if I should be concerned.
Thanks in advance!

Answer
Dear Liz,

Yes, you're wise to be concerned.

A bald spot in this location can be an indication of dental problems making the bunny drool.  The saliva is caustic, and will burn the skin, making the fur fall out.  But that's the least of the problems.  Molar spurs or other dental problems can cause a great deal of pain and misery (though rabbits are so stoic you might never know it), and can lead to worse health problems.  Please read:

and find a good rabbit vet to help you here:

Hope this helps!
