Question
hi.i bought 2 rabbits from a private seller in a newspaper and i was told they were both females and were about 8 weeks old.
i bought them as a first pet for my 2 girls, and would first like to know how to tell difference between a male and a female and also how to tell if one of them is pregnant.
as the one of them was quite big when we got it about 4 weeks ago and has got bigger as well as eating more.
also do female rabbits have periods?as the one i think is pregnant was bleeding today

Answer
Rabbits do not have a heat or menstrual cycle of any kind. If she is bleeding, it either means she had babies (she may have eaten them) or she is injured. At 8 weeks old, though, it is unlikely (not entirely impossible, but highly unlikely) that she was pregnant. However, it takes about 4 weeks (28 to 35 days) from mating for a female to give birth, so if she WAS pregnant, now is about the right time for her to have a litter.

http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/sexing.shtml has a good visual that you can use to help you sex your rabbits. However, if you are not sure still, please take them to a vet or an experienced breeder to have them sex your rabbits. That way you can be sure.
