Rabbit started flipping his litter box

Question
We bought our first rabbit one month ago, expecting it to be challenging. Leon is a short-haired Lionhead, about 1 year old, and was neutered 10 days after being brought home. Several days ago he started furiously digging, scratching and biting at his corner litter box in an attempt to flip it over.  He's been kicking out the Carefresh litter, eating his poo (which I read is normal), and today he started peeing and sitting directly in it.  Not sure what we did to cause this behavior, as we haven't changed our schedule since bringing him home.  He is only aggressive toward his litter box, which I clean daily. What do you think?

Answer
Hi Adrienne,

he is about 20-21 days into being neutered.  That means he still has hormones in his system for another 10-11 days or so.  Some of this behavior could still be hormonally induced and could just be a by-product of lowering hormone levels.

In the meantime, you may have to put a second litterpan down in the spot he is kicking litter to and peeing.  It will make life easier and if it is a phase you can soon get rid of the 2nd pan.

If it is not a phase, he may be telling you that he prefers the litterpan where he is going, rather than where you have originally placed it.

the third alternative is if he uses both pans is to get a larger pan (a larger cat pan can work very well).
