Question
I just went into rabbitary and i've started with a buck and two doe. Want to know how old the females will start to breed?

Thank You.

Deborah

Answer
It depends on the breed you have. Rabbits can actually start to breed very early (as young as 3 months, and sometimes even sooner), but it is not safe to breed them until they are physically mature. For small breeds, 5 months is acceptable. For medium-sized breeds, 6-7 months is okay. For large breeds, it is best to hold off until 8 months. For giant breeds, 9-10 months is sometimes more appropriate. This is because smaller rabbits mature much more quickly than do larger rabbits. At 6 months, large breeds are still gaining weight and maturing, so it would not be safe to breed them.
