Mating

Question
I have outdoors 2 male lops a little over 1 year old and 2 female up ears little under 1 year old.  They are separated by sex.  Today I place all of them in a pen hoping they would mate.  The females kept running away when the males tried to mount.  The males were not that interested even when the females cuddled next to them.  After a while one male just lay down resting and the others started eating.  Over an hour and no mating.  Is it the wrong time of year to breed?  They sure were not horny little rabbits.

Answer
Rabbits usually breed best in the spring. However, they can get pregnant at any time of the year. A female that is ready to breed will have a bright red vulva (the female genitalia). One that is purple means she will probably accept the male, but she may not get pregnant. One that is pink means she probably will not accept the male.
