bunny has been neutered but still urinating on bed

Question
Dr. Krempels:  I admire you for what you do.  My rabbit, Bunny, is litter trained and has been neutered but he loves to urinate on the bed and couch.  He loves to have free range of the house when I'm home and I'd like to keep it that way.  Do you know why he does this?  I thought it would stop after he was neutered which was a year ago.  I hate to cover everything all the time but I will if I have to.  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Dear Kelly,

Sometimes once a bunny learns to urinate in a certain spot, that habit is incredibly hard to break, even after neutering.  I would suggest you get a water-resistant mattress pad to cover the couch and bed when you're not there to give him a squirt with the water bottle and a sharp "NO!" when he moves to make the wee in the wrong place.

A good rabbit behavior expert will be better able to help you than I (I'm more of a health problem person), so I'd recommend you email behavior@rabbit.org

Hope this helps!
