Question
Hi, would a 4ft (lenth) X 2ft (height)  X 2ft (depth)  hutch be big enough to accomidate two lop eared dwarf rabbits?
thanks! aly

Answer
Hi Aly,

bigger is always better, especially if they are not let out very long for exercise.

I'd say it might work if you could build a '2nd floor' shelf for them that can give them a little more room to hang out.  Sometimes if cages are too crowded, it can lead to fighting, and I'd mention it to you in a cage as you are describing.

I would recommend (for a happier pair of rabbits) a two-story cage from Leith Petwerks.  It is the same floorspace as you mentioned - 4 x 2 x 2 ft - but it has two stories and probably is not much more than what you were looking at.  The link for it can be pasted into your browser's address line:

The nice thing about it is that if you have to ever keep them separate, you can remove the 2nd floor from above the first and have two independent cages.  Also, if down the road you want to add another floor, you can do that too, and all in the same space footprint.  It's very flexible.  I have several friends who have a number of these in different configurations and the rabbits really enjoy the ability to get different views and have more room to move when they aren't out for exercise.
