Question
I have a 1.5 year old male and 1 year old female mini lop. They've been in cages next to each other since we bought them, and in the same cage after she was 9 months. They had a litter and we separated the adults but the mother refused to eat or nurse. The babies died and we put them together again, after which she began eating again. With this litter we again separated them but into cages where they could see each other. Again she stopped eating and we put him back in. They're both eating and she's nursing and the babies are doing much better this time around. Should we just leave them as they are right now? The male doesn't seem to mind the babies in fact he lays beside them and lets them climb on and around him and he grooms them. There haven't been any deaths with this litter.

Answer
Hi Jessi,
Unfortunately the female is most probably pregnant again because they breed the same day after giving birth...if the babies have lived for 2 days, they should be alright at this point.  You can put the male next to her again...otherwise you will have litter after litter.and you should seperate all the males and females by the age of 3 months...otherwise you will have a big problem of way too many rabbits.
Only breed the mother 2 times in a year...to many litters will shorten her life and could cause other complications for her health. you can spay the mother or neuter the male so you can keep them happily living with eachother.  But if you do spay the female, only do it after the babies have been fully weaned.
