Question
There are 6 in the litter and both parents are dwarf lops. could you tell me what is the doudle dwarf gene about and why does it make it impossable to live? We have got it booked in at the vet today as i feel that it is unfair to keep it alive if there is no hope of recovery im just hoping that it could be a vitamin deficiency but how would we find out what vitamin it is deficient in? many thanks

-----Question-----
Im very worried that my baby bunny has a serious problem, the eyes have just opened and all the other litter mates have started to come out the nest but this one who i've been having to hold to mums teat as it has great difficulty in feeding on its own(mums milk is better than totally hand rearing i think)It is very skinny and cannot stand like the others it just slides and rolls from side to side. All its legs are functional and moving. Im desprate for any advice as we dont have a decent rabbit vet near to me. I was wondering if a vitamin deficiency could be the cause or is it something more serious. please help

It may be a vitamin defiency. You can always force feed a vitamin supplemnted water syringe daily. IT may be a health disorder causing him to be behind. How many are in the litter? Is it a dwarf breed because there is always a chance for it to be a double dwarf gene carrier making it impossible for it to live.

Answer
The double dwarf gene is fatal because it makes it impossible for a rabbit to digest food properly. Normally a kit with the "peanut" gene will not survive past 10 days old. It is posssible that it is not a double dwarf kit. I have no way of telling you how to tell if it is a viatmin defincency, but hopefully your vet can help you.
