Question
Could you tell me what the gestation period of a rabbit is?  My daughter got 2 rabbits in August 2006 and i thought they were both females. There has been 2 litters of bunnies in the last couple of months -- but due to the cold weather (I think) they are dying. Also after the mom has them how long do the babies need to be with her?

Answer
Gestation period is 28-32 days. Cold weather can kill them. They have to be in a nesting box to survive. They should be weaned around 6-8 weeks old. As soon as they are weaned they should be taken away from mom so that any males in the litter cannot impregnate her. Dad should be removed from the pen after you breed her.
