Small lump found.

Question
I have a female rabbit about two years old. She's pretty much wild, browny black fur. I've recently noticed a small lump on her head. Its on the left side above her eye. She does seem to be scratching her head a lot, i don't know if shes just nicked the skin and has an infection, or something. Regardless, she's happy no change to eating or drinking, she's currently sun bathing while I'm worrying. the lump is skin coloured, but with little red blood vessels in it. Any idea if this is just a harmless little growth or something more serious?

Answer
Dear Nicola,

Without seeing the lesion, I can't make an accurate assessment of what it might be.  But if she's scratching at it, I would have it looked at by a good rabbit vet to make sure it's not something dangerous.  It could be a small abscess developing, or an itchy insect bite (these are more likely if the lump moves with the skin), or it could be something more sinister, such as a tumor (more likely if it doesn't move with the skin, and is attached firmly to underlying tissue).  There are many possible things it could be.  So to set your mind at ease and make sure all is well, please get her to a good rabbit vet for a checkup.

Hope that helps!
