female aggressiveness and large neck

Question
I have a 3 y.o. New Zealand Giant who is aggressive and has a large neck  and chin undergrowth.  She gets exercise on weekends and days off, and is penned with a male neutered dwarf.  What is with the large chin  =- she is fed small amt. of maintainance pellets and grass hay.
Why is the chin so large and how do I get it to go down?

Answer
Hi Martha

If the rabbit's breed is New Zealand they are large to begin with.  The ideal Senior doe weight is 10 - 12 pounds.  They were originally bred for meat purposes and are actually the number 1 meat breed.  No offense intended just stating the facts.

The thing under its neck is called a dewlap which is a lose fold of skin that hangs from the throat.  It is almost always present in doe's and is really even more common in doe's of larger breeds.  They aren't supposed to be huge but believe me they can get really big even on rabbits that are properly fed and exercised.

Check out this web-site and look at the doe at the bottom with the guinea pig.. you can see her dewlap.

Just keep feeding her the required amounts of food and continuous hay.  You aren't doing anything wrong but she is a bit older and its not going to go away.  Sorry to disappoint you but I am sure she is perfectly healthy unless she has rolls of fat hanging over everywhere.

If you want any other information about helping with her aggression let me know.  I don't mind giving you idea's but I kind of need to know when she is aggressive and what she does.

Thanks

Pam
