Question
hi my name is chloe and im 13. my bunny broke it's leg about 2 days ago, and both bones in its leg are broken. it was caused by my grandma who stepped on it but didn't put her foot all the way down. She weighs about 150 kg maybe more and chopper is only a tiny tiny bunny. he is 8 weeks old. we have taken it to the vet and he has a little cast on him. its making me cry everytime i look at him because his leg sticks out. i don't no if the vet made it better or worse. i love chopper soooo incredibly much and i really dont want him to die. plz tell me everything you know about broken bunny legs asap. plz tell me what to do because im very worried.

Answer
Hi Chloe

The vet should obviously took an X-ray and probably gave the bunny some pain medicine.  Bunnies heal and some vets don't even splint broken legs so yours is pretty lucky.

He will be fine.  His leg will heal.  You just need to keep an eye on him and make sure he is eating, drinking, and doesn't have any diarrhea.  If he has any of those then rush him back to the vet.  You don't have to worry little one animals have accidents and are very capable of healing.

Since the leg is casted he will probably be able to walk the exact way he did before.  He will be in pain for a while but he will heal very fast.  He will also probably be a little bit afraid to get near anyone's feet for now.

The reason he let out a squeak is because that is what bunnies do when they are hurt.  You did everything you could for him by taking him to the vet right away.  Now try to relax and not worry because it wasn't your fault at all.

Please let me know how he is in a few weeks.  I can almost bet you he is going to be the same loving bunny that you bought.

Just give chopper lots of extra love

Pam
