Question
Hi hope you can help me, We have four indoor rabbits two have a cage each and the new two share a large cage. The new two we purchased a week ago.I was told they would get on for life as they are brothers. We have found one with injuries to both ears that have bled. They are now seperated what i need to know is why could this have happened? could it be because the only female is about seven months old. could the two new ones have been competing for her? will they get on if i get the brothers neatured? many thanks Diane

Answer
Hi Diane

I am so sorry that someone foolishly told you that 2 brothers would get along.  In all my life experiences and years of raising and training rabbits I have only ever seen one pair of un-neutered boys that were able to be bonded.

As for the doe the answer would probably be yes.  They may very well be fighting over her.  My question for you is why are the boys and the girl allowed to be together in the first place?  Or are they just smelling her near them?  If you let them all play together and none of them are fixed she is going to end up pregnant.  I was just curious about that.

If you get them neutered you can re-bond them and they should get along very well.  I am attaching a web-site that discusses when to bond and when not to bond and how to successfully bond.  I really hope it helps you understand.

Again I am sorry that someone misled you.

Good luck and if you have any more questions please let me know

Pam
