Answer
Both boy and girl rabbits can make excellent pets. However, the cost of neutering males is less than the cost of spaying females, so that may be something to take into consideration. Pet rabbits should be spayed or neutered. It helps prevent unwanted behaviour problems (spraying, mounting, aggressiveness due to hormones, etc.) and it completely preventts testicular cancer in males and uterine and overian cancer in females.

If you are thinking about getting more than one (a great idea, as a bonded pair will keep each other company), I would actually recommend getting an already bonded spayed/neutered pair from a rescue. They will be a little older, but then you will also skip the baby problems such as being more fragile (and being more prone to sickness), aggressive behaviour during the "teenage" stage, etc. You also will know exactly what you are getting. Babies often change temperaments drastically when they reach maturity. Your sweet little baby could turn into an aggressive, territorial adult. By getting an older rabbit (6 months to a year and a half is great), you bypass all these problems.

If you do still want a baby, I would highly suggest going to a responsible show breeder to purchase one. This way the breeder will be able to tell you about any genetic or temperament problems in the line (if any). They can pair you with just the right baby. A rescue baby is always great, too, but you will not have much (if any) idea about how the baby is going to turn out because the ancestry is probably not known.
