Question
my duaghter who is 7 yrs informed e he rabbit, 4-6 mnths, passed a small worm in her urine yesterday. would this be possible and if so what can i do about it as clearly unhealthy?

Answer
Hi Helen

Rabbits can get pinworms and they really need to be treated by a veterinarian.  If left untreated they can drain the bunny of extra nutrition which can cause poor health and lack of vigor.

This can easily be treated with piperazine and a good rabbit savvy vet can give you a prescription and instruct you on how to give the bunny the treatments at home rather than coming into the office for treatments everyday.

If you would like a list of rabbit savvy vets in your area you can try this site:

If you are unable to find anyone on your list then please start calling all the vets in your phone book and asking if any of them treat exotic pets.  Rabbits fall under the exotic pet category.  If they don't they should be able to point you to someone who does.

This problem is really easy to cure and after treatment your bunny should be just fine.

Good luck

Pam
