Question
Hiya,
recently my bunnie has been malting a lot and last night me and my mom noticed a bold patch on her back, between her sholders, and this morning i noticed it had got bigger.
She has no fleas, ticks or anything like that.
i am really worried.
Can you help?
Luv Emily

Answer
Hi Emily

I think I just answered this question but I will answer it again just in case.

Remember that if you are ever worried about your bunny you should take it to a good veterinarian that treats rabbits.  That way you will know for sure that she is ok.

Sometimes when rabbits molt they will get a bald patch.  It is not uncommon.  The most common place for them to get this bald patch is on the back usually behind the ears but can be anywhere along the spine.  As long as you don't see any scabs, excessive flaking, walking dander or she isn't scratching it then I wouldn't worry to much about it.

If you do see fleas or dander that appears to be moving then you need to take her to a veterinarian for treatment.  A few other things to consider is that she could be over grooming herself, if she can reach that area, or if you have another rabbit or another pet (like a cat) that she is bonded with, they may be over grooming her.

Give it about a month.  If you don't see new hair growth by then take her to a veterinarian.  If it spreads all over or there are any scabs or excessive dander or itching then take her right away.  It sounds like she is just a heavy molter.

Good luck

Pam
