baby bunnies found

Question
My dog brought two baby bunnies out of the woods unharmed.  The bunnies are very young, as their eyes are not open yet.  We looked for and found what we believe the nest to be.  The bunny hair in the nest was a good indicator.  We put the two little bunnies back in the nest and covered them back up with the grass and bunny hair.  My concern is if the mother rabbit will come back and how we can tell if she has.  We plan on checking on the bunnies to make sure that they are being taken care of.  Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Shannon

Answer
Hi Shannon!

It's great that you found the nest and put the babies back but I think that now you've handled them and they smell of you and your dog, theres a good chance she'll abandon them or kill them.

Please be very careful if you go and check on the, see if you can find a patch of rabbit poo and rub your hands in it to mask your smell....wear gloves!

Sorry to not have more positive news.
