Answer
Hi Clare,

I am happy your rabbit is a bit better.  I still think you need to determine what he has so that if he needs antibiotics or other meds he can have them and knock out whatever bacteria/virus he's got.  I do not know of any rabbit having an infection wiped out in one day.  It doesn't happen.  You have to ask the vet what he is basing this on.  I would think he's just visually inspecting the rabbit rather than running a couple tests to conclusively determine what is going on.  I'm not saying you can't take him home, but I'd want to know what he has and be given meds for him if his condition is bacterial/viral/parasitical.  This stuff just doesn't go away on it's own with good wishes.

From what I know about rabbits, I have not heard about males making birthing nests.  I have seen males that like their cage messy basically have the only clean spot in the cage be where they are sitting/laying.

Has your other 'male' started pulling out fur from his dewlap?  Does he have a large dewlap?  Does he whimper when you try to pick him up?  If you put him on his back does he appear to have nipples?  If so, he is a she.
