Question
hello i have a bunny named ava who when i was cleaning out her cage yesterday noticed that on her lower back by her tail her fur was falling out! it looks like dandruff at the skin.. i looked online and beleive its fur mites.. i dont have a vet in my area that deals with rabbits so im out of luck.. i also have a kitten who is under 9 lbs so i was thinking of getting advantage from my vet for her and putting some on my rabbit too... how much would i put of her and does that get rid of fur mites.. theres also another product called revoloution that i was thinking might work... which would you prefer.. i want to get rid of this ASAP! thanks so much

Answer
Hi Candace,

I would probably go with Revolution.  HOWEVER....PLEASE READ.....you have to use it at a reduced dosage!!!!  You need to give a kitten-strength (smaller) dose for a rabbit.  More than a kitten strength dose could be damaging or fatal.  I would put it directly in between shoulder blades or slightly higher so that they can't lick that area very well and ingest it so easily.

Advantage may not get rid of the mites, so that is an issue.  You can give kittens kitten-size doses of revolution.

Another alternative is to have your vet give a shot of ivermectin to your rabbit, which is safe in the correct dosage.  I know you say your vet doesn't work with rabbits, but I just want to make you aware of it if you do find a rabbit vet in your area.
