Sugars in bunnys diet

Question
We adopted a wonderful bunny in July this year from the pound and he's
doing great!  We did quite a bit of reading before setting up his home and
know what he is allowed to eat. How do I know if he's getting too much sugar
in his diet?  He has full access to the entire yard during the day so he gets an
abundance of fresh herbs and greens.  Even rose petals.  Once he's back in
his hutch he eats his hay, pellets and some carrot.  As a treat I'll give him one
grape or a slice of apple.  Is it safe to give him a piece each day?  There are
no signs of ill health, I just don't want to create any.  He loves grapes!

Answer
Dear Erin,

It doesn't sound as if your bunny is getting too much sugar, and he sounds like a lucky bunny!  :)  You can check his diet here:

But if he has normal poops and is not overweight, then you're doing fine. Please read:

if you see any sign of mushy or runny poop.  You can find a good rabbit vet here for annual wellness checks:

Good luck with your pal!
