My bunny chews on everything!

Question
My dwarf bunny is an excellent rabbit. He is potty trained and very nice. But he chews on everything! We love to let him get his exercise by running around one of our somewhat bunny proof room. He chews the carpet and the molding. What should I do? My mom is threatening to get rid of him. Is there any way to save my rabbit?

Answer
First off, all of these things are very normal behaviors for rabbits. Bunnies chew. If you don't want your bunny to destroy your carpet then you'll need to give him an alternative. You can buy a woven grass mat at a place like Home Depot and he can dig and chew on it to his heart's content. (FYI: carpet fibers can be deadly if they are ingested)

For the molding, you may need to make a trip to your local hardware store and see if you can get strips of plastic to lay over the wood and protect it. Also, try spraying where you don't want him to chew with Bitter Apple: http://www.bitterapple.com/

Hope that helps!
