Question
Olivia, my bunny, is bleeding from her rectum. She also hasn't eaten, drank, or gone to the bathroom in about 24 hours. I took her to the vet they said that there is a very minimal chance that she will survive. I did take her home. In your opinion What are the chances that she will survive? I got two medicines from the vet. metoclopramide oral and carafate suspension.

Answer
Dear David,

If all those vets did was prescribe an intestinal motility drug and carafate (which is used to "seal over" intestinal ulcers), then you definitely need to find a vet who will Olivia's problem more seriously.

If you are absolutely sure it is her rectum, and not her vulva, that's the source of the blood, then any number of things could be wrong, from a tumor to an intestinal rupture.  You don't say how she's behaving, or what other symptoms she is showing, so it's hard for me to guess what might be wrong.

If the blood is coming from the vulva, and she's not spayed, then she could have a uterine tumor that's hemorrhaging, and an immediate spay might be necessary.  Please find a good rabbit vet here:

I cannot guess her chances of survival without seeing her or knowing what's wrong, but she *definitely* needs to be seen by a veterinarian who is more experienced and aggressive with rabbit medicine.

I hope this helps.
