prolapse in rabbits

Question
Hi, I noticed today that my rabbit has got something hanging from his bottom- can they have a prolapse?  What could this be?

Dear Tracy,

A rabbit can have a prolapse of the uterus or rectum, as can any mammal.  If you suspect this is the problem, please rush your bunny to an emergency rabbit vet immediately, as this can be life-threatening if not treated:

If it's just a polyp, then no harm done.  But since I can't see it, I'll assume the worst and urge you to get your bunny to a good rabbit vet immediately.
