Rabbits nose

Question
I have a 5-month-old female dwarf rabbit.  About 3 weeks ago, I noticed a place on her nose that looked like she poked it with something (maybe alfalfa or shavings).  It seemed to improve at first, but now her nose looks red and crusty.  Could she have an infection or fungus?  Is this unusual or normal for dwarf rabbits?

Answer
Dear Michelle,

Red and crusty isn't normal for any bunny.  Without seeing her I can't know for sure, but this could be the very early signs of mange:

Rabbit syphilis can also cause crusty lesions on the nose and lips.

A good rabbit vet:

can have a look and make a positive diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment.

Hope this helps.
