QuestionMy rabbit Fudge is beige hence the name. Recently he has been developing a dark patch on his back and now it is getting bigger. The fur is shorter in this area but i checked and it isn't the skin, is he just changing colour.
AnswerDear Kerry,
Sometimes when rabbits shed and grow in their new fur, the new fur is a somewhat different color from the older, faded fur. In time, the new fur will fade, too. In some cases (especially babies), a shed will result in a somewhat dramatic color change, such as in the case of a temperature-sensitive mutant known as a "Himalayan," which has dark nose, ears, paws and tail.
As long as the skin is healthy and the fur is growing in normally, I wouldn't worry about the color change. (And Fudge comes in lots of colors, so the name should still be okay.)
Hope this helps.
Dana
