Baby Bun...

Question
Hello!

I recently recieved a baby bunny (8/9 weeks im guessing). The other babies he was being housed with were all lop ears (some fuzzy lops, some minis). I am told he was the only one with upright ears. I know lops are born with upright ears, and they tend to droop as they get older. My previous rabbit was a Dutch, and his ears were narrow at the base and more thickened than this ones. The new baby's ears are very thin, wide and tend to make a "Y" shape on top of this head...they go out to the side more.

Do you think he is a lop who will retain his standing ears, or will they gradually droop with time? It really makes no difference to me, I'm just curious as to what sort of rabbit he may be. His face is more rounded and "squished" looking than my Dutch rabbits was....

Thanks!!!!

Answer
Did you see the parents?  If he is not purebred there is no way to tell.  Most mixed babies will have ears that do not drop.  Fuzzy lops have very small ears and usually drop by the time they are 8 weeks old.  There are on occasion those lops (especially hollands) that have ears that never drop.

The rounded and squished face tends to describe both fuzzy lops and holland lops.  What does his fur look like?

I would be happy to take a look at him for you if you can get me a photo.  If you want to send another message and mark it as private I will happily give you my e-mail address.  If you have the ability to use photobucket or have a website you can post his picture on and attach the link I can take a look at him and give you my opinion.  I raise fuzzy lops and holland lops but am not to versed on mini lops.  The biggest difference on all of them is going to be their fur.
