Question
Hi..Hope you can help. while cutting the grass we found a rabbits nest, all babies were gone except one tiny little thing, eyes not open, hardly any fur. So I waited 2 days to see if mama would come, I watched at night mostly. She did not. I went out, took baby in, and started feeding him/her with a saline squirt drop(very tiny) I fed her Goat milk about every 4 hours, with in the first week she grew fur, week 2 opened her eyes, and I started giving her clover(she ate it!!!!) all the while still drinking her goat milk. Now after um..lets see, about a month, she still drinks goat milk(out of a bowl), eats alphalfa(sp?) and clover. SHE is chubby and poops good etc..I've handled her from day one so she lets me pick her up to pet her. I figured she would LOVE to go out now, she must be a cottontail(she is). Well, today was the maiden voyage. I put her box outside away from everything, tall grass was all around, she hopped out, sniffed around and hopped back into the box. I pick her up, put her back into the grass and walked away, I watched for 30 minutes to see if she would do anything different. Nope, hopped back in the box and never left. What do you  think I should do? I hate to leave her alone for fear she is not really knowing what to do. I think she is so use to sitting with me watching tv that maybe she forgot she is wild. PLEASE Advise. Thanks so much. P.s I have a cat cleo that lets "Lucky" the rabbit lay next to her when its chilly at night. My 2 dogs seems to care less they don't chase her if I put her on the floor. But then again it was such a process feeding her when she was so tiny they all got use to her and her smell I guess.

Answer
Hi Melody,
What's going on is she doesn't know she is wild and if you put her out alone she wont make it. She has relied on you for everything since before she could see. You are her mom in her eyes. Are you not wanting to keep her? She will never be able to be outside alone. There usually not on there own at 1 month anyway. There not even usually weaned yet usually at 8-12 weeks they wean depending on the doe and breeder. Hope this helps
