Putting two male rabbits together

Question
Hi Emily
I am moving abroad and my friend has kindly given my male dwarf rabbit a home. He already has a male rabbit and we put them in the garden togather yesterday.  They seemed to be getting on well maybe too well. Both rabbits were trying to mount each other and the smaller dwarf rabbit has bitten chunks of fur off the larger rabbit each time he has mounted him. We thought that eventually they would calm down but they are still at it and bald patches have appeared on the larger rabbit now. Do you think that they will settle down or do you think that I had better find a new home.

Thanks
Sally

Answer
Hello Sally.

Male rabbits do tend to do this, it is a urge they get in heat or they do it to show dominance. They sometimes bite to make sure the rabbit doesn't move and stays still, also to get a good grip.

Males are really hard to calm down, so it is very hard to train them not to do this. I think the best option for you is to get your rabbit spayed or if you have already done this then maybe you could still keep your rabbit at your friends house just don't let the 2 rabbits meet each other.

I hoped this helps and i hope you have a nice time abroad.
